I believe that a person already has all of the answers within them, but sometimes needs help strengthening their resources or applying them to different areas of their lives. Deep inside, I think that people have the desire to heal and move forward. We are constantly changing and evolving with time, along with our desires and perspective.
I focus not only on the current needs of the client, but also on creating the possibilities of happiness and self-sufficiency in the manageable future too. We can also look at the choices you made in the past that are no longer serving you and co-create new possibilities together.
What you bring to your session will help shape our time together, and can often shine a light on the relevant triggers from your past. This not only enables us to find the causation of your problems and to find the correct tools for healing (without having to dig up your whole history) but to look forward into the future and build towards the life you wish to live.
People often come to therapy when their cognitive mind (logical/analytical side) is out of sync with their somatic experiences. They may struggle to understand their symptoms or may have intellectualized their feelings, or life may simply seem overwhelming for no obvious reasons.
The body holds just as much, if not more wisdom than the mind, and when we learn to listen to it and make space for all that there is, we can learn to understand and even alter our nervous systems into a more resourceful state, using healthier methods. Bringing somatic awareness into your daily life can give you back control and can help you understand and even befriend your emotions.
Contemporary Psychotherapy is an ever-evolving, integrative, outcome-oriented model which combines elements from person-centered counselling, NLP where we often use state changing exercises, Ericksonian hypnotherapy which can guide you into awareness from an empowered state, Gestalt therapy, nervous system regulation, grounding techniques, some CBT, amongst other modalities. It’s a space to have your voice heard, to share your story without judgement and at times can even be playful and light.
